Depave Gives Tacoma Neighborhood a Facelift

Posted on November 29, 2016 at 11:39 AM by Allan Warren

Pg 3 PlantingAfter being nominated 3 times over the past 3 years the Yakima and Thompson Y's were Depaved!  With the help of the City of Tacoma, grant funding from the South End Neighborhood Council and Tacoma, sponsorship from Tagro, Lowes, and King 5 news, we ripped up 3,600 Sqft of pavement and planted 1,600 trees and shrubs.

Over 85,000 gallons of stormwater will now be infiltrated back into the ground rather than carry pollution to Puget Sound! Instead of ugly, excess pavement, this space will now be beautiful and green, helping clean our air and our water. We are always looking for more sites – let us know if you know of a space in your neighborhood to improve.

A big THANK YOU! to the 150  volunteers that came out to help improve our community. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Depave in the Spring of 2017!
