Conservation Celebration Keynote Speaker: Patricia Colemon

Posted on March 16, 2018 at 3:08 PM by Camila Matamala-Ost

Patricia Colemon
Patricia Colemon is a recognized C-Suite leader with decades of experience in leadership development and capacity building. During her talk at our upcoming Conservation Celebration and Awards Ceremony, Patricia will be exploring the topic: Uncovering Truths.

Uncovering Truths: Equity is the word of the day – it rings in board rooms as well as on the streets. Many of us wonder what it means. In relation to environmentalism, equity is as much about policy and practices as it is about historical narrative. Unfortunately, when it comes to environmentalism, the narrative is as warped and distorted as my old Donna Summer LP’s. The truth has yet to be laid bare for all to see. America has never experienced an un-warped and inclusive history.

Patricia Colemon is a recognized C-Suite leader with decades of experience in leadership development and capacity building. She is a strategist, highly analytical and an empathetic listener. Patricia is Principal Consultant at Colemon and Associates, a business management consulting firm. Patricia has a proven ability to lead diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives by mobilizing diverse work groups towards a common goal.

Patricia earned an esteemed reputation for designing and implementing model programs that engage marginalized communities. She has led the success of initiatives such as the Leaders in Women’s Health, Urban Leaders in Training, 4-City Demonstration Project, and Proteen. Her philosophy is based in research that confirms when those most impacted by a social issue are involved in the design and implementation of the solution – it has the greatest chance of success and sustainability.

Professionally, Patricia served as the President/CEO of the Northwest Leadership Foundation (NLF) for 11 years and is very proud of the network of leaders who are beneficiaries and alumni of NLF’s services. She also served the cities of Tacoma, Federal Way and United Way of King County, assisting in the allocation and monitoring of funds for social services.

Patricia demonstrates her commitment to servant leadership through her civic engagement activities:  Board Member and Selection Committee Chair of American Leadership Forum (current); Board Member of the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation (2010-2016); Appointee to the Charter Review Committee, City of Tacoma (2014), and Membership Committee Chair, World Cup Task Force Chair of Leadership Foundations (2008-2012).
A graduate of Iowa State University, Pat is sought out as an industry leader in capacity building, community engagement, and casting new vision on status quo systems.  Patricia’s TED talk, “Wisdom as a Means for Transformation,” asserted that effective leadership cannot exist apart from community. A deep passion for emerging leaders in overlooked places drives her work to infuse anti-oppressive practices and justice to the heart of systems design.
