The Science and Math Institute B-Team won the South Puget Sound Regional Envirothon competition and went on to compete at the state competition.

Two Pierce County high school teams from Eatonville and Tacoma’s Science and Math Institute (SAMI) participated in the 2016 South Puget Sound Regional Envirothon competition on May 5 at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, testing their knowledge of soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife, and this year’s special topic: invasive species.

Designed to engage high school students in environmental and natural resource sciences, Envirothon teams are supported by their local conservation districts, and culminate in an international meet every summer with teams from all 50 states, as well as the Canadian provinces.

Congratulations to the SAMI-B team, which won the regional event and participated in the Washington State competition in mid-May that was hosted by the Palouse Conservation District in Anatone, WA.
