This year Piece Conservation District is hitting the ground running with Orcas Love Raingardens, where we will be coordinating outdoor work parties at several active rain garden sites within the Tacoma Public School District. The mission of Orcas Love Raingardens is to introduce every student to the impacts of polluted stormwater through the lens of rain gardens - orca-saving landscape features. In normal circumstances we would be working with teachers and students, but because of COVID restrictions we are seeking ambitious volunteers willing to get a little dirty and have a lot of fun while we work on these sites. Typical activities include covering exposed soil with cardboard and mulch, ripping out bad plants, and pruning established plants. Tools are provided by PCD.

Whether you’re looking to get involved for the day, or are planning on returning for continuous support, joining the ranks of PCD volunteers is a rewarding experience and a great way for families to give back to their local schools. Help us celebrate Earth Day by spending 3 hours caring for your green spaces in Puyallup and Fircrest. Activities will include ripping out invasive plants and caring for existing plantings.
We will be staying healthy by working socially distanced at all times, and wearing face coverings. We will also be capping event size at a total of 5 people per site. The good news is this allows for more opportunities to volunteer!
