It is with much excitement that we
welcome Mary Krauszer as the new
program manager for Shore Friendly
Pierce! With an academic background
in marine biology and professional
experience developing the first-ever
ranger program for Metro Parks
Tacoma, Mary brings a unique skill
set to the District’s effort to improve
nearshore ecosystems in Pierce
County. Here’s a little more about
Mary, in her own words:
I am thrilled to join the Pierce
Conservation District team and
to work to make tangible, positive
change for landowners and Puget
Sound ecosystems. I was born and
raised in Alaska and moved to Tacoma
in 2008 to attend the University
of Puget Sound. I fell in love with
Washington state and the South
Sound region.
My field work in intertidal ecology
and nearshore ecosystems
introduced me to shoreline armoring
and the benefits of shore friendly
methods. With a background in
environmental education and
community engagement with Metro
Parks Tacoma, Franklin Conservation
District, and Slater Museum of
Natural History, among others, I have
worked upstream from conservation,
nurturing attitudes toward
stewardship action. I look forward
to moving my efforts downstream
to maximize my impact and directly
address the health of Puget Sound in
a more concrete way. When I’m not at
work or walking with my greyhound,
you can find me on the track with the
Dockyard Derby Dames, Tacoma’s
roller derby league.
