Posted on October 12, 2017 at 8:20 AM by Allan Warren

Kramer FullKramer Canup joins the District as our new Habitat Improvement Technician, to help us reach our goals for salmon and wildlife habitat recovery. Kramer grew up in the Puget Sound lowlands exploring Seattle’s urban forests and waterways.

Kramer is seen here at Machu Picchu, Peru. For the past two summers, Kramer co-instructed a Study Abroad course to Peru, where they visited Machu Picchu with the focus of the course on field ecology and research down in the Peruvian Amazon in Manu National Park.

He graduated from the University of Washington Bothell in 2016 with a degree in Conservation Management and a minor in Ecological Restoration. In his new role, Kramer assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of riparian restoration projects that are aimed at improving salmon and wildlife habitat.

Prior to joining the Pierce Conservation District team, Kramer taught field based ecology courses in the Peruvian Amazon for the University of Washington, guided University of Washington students on backpacking trips in the Cascade and Olympic Mountain Ranges and has conducted vegetation monitoring for the Bureau of Land Management in Eastern Washington. He also spent four years volunteering as a Forest Steward for the Green Seattle Partnership leading urban forest restoration projects. In his free time, you can find Kramer climbing and backpacking around the Pacific Northwest and sharing his passion and knowledge of the natural world with others.
