The Tesla STEM High School Team with their 1st place trophy
State Envirothon Concluded
This year’s Envirothon competition occurred in Walla Walla County at Camp Wooten. A beautiful spot along the Tucannon River and nestled between the blue mountains was the perfect setting for teams across the state to compete for the top spot. Each team showed their knowledge of the natural world through challenges like analyzing macroinvertebrate surveys, identifying creatures base on skulls and examining soil samples. Each team also created a presentation on their provided solution to an environmental problem concerning renewable energy. This challenge assessed both their understanding of the topic and their problem-solving abilities. Many of the questions and tests students were asking to perform assessed the same practical skills professionals use in the field.
With each team being the best in their county, competition was fierce! It was a close race, but after a strong 2nd place showing in last year’s state competition Tesla STEM High School won the 2024 State Envirothon trophy! They'll celebrate their victory and then head to the North American Envirothon competition across the country in Geneva, New York. Pierce Conservation District wishes them them the best of luck as they compete to show everyone what Washington State is made of!
