This tour will provide useful information and tools to the hay grower and pasture manager looking to improve their fields without turning the soil. Using a no-till drill is an excellent way to incorporate new and improved seed varieties into your field to increase its productivity without worrying about the birds eating your seed, bringing up rocks during tillage, and spending extra manpower and fuel on traditional renovation. Not to mention the difficulty in finding equipment or a custom farmer to do that work. Walk fields on two farms that have used the Pierce Conservation District’s no-till drill to see the results and hear from the producers on how using the drill has improved their production. One farm has prairie soil, and the other has both high, dry ground, and low, wet fields, so you’ll get to see how the till has done on a variety of soil types and conditions. At the second farm, a demonstration of and training on using PCD’s no-till drill will be available at the conclusion of the tour, and this training is a pre-requisite for renting the drill.
