Veggie Co-op to Benefit from Healthy Kids-Healthy Schools Grant

Arlene picking peasIn mid-April, Franklin Pierce School District’s Natural Science Resource Center (The Farm) was awarded a $200,000 grant to support efforts to deliver high quality produce from the farm to school cafeterias year round. Our Veggie Co-op program, a community food project driven by volunteers, is hosted at The Farm and will likewise benefit from these grant dollars.

Building a sustainable food system at the Veggie Co-op

Veggie Coop (3)At the corner of East 96th and Waller Road in Tacoma there is a place where people of all ages are coming together to help build a more sustainable food system. This place is called Veggie Co-op. The Veggie Co-op is a volunteer-run program managed by the Pierce Conservation District through its program Harvest Pierce County that coordinates individuals to come together as a community to grow food on a farm scale.
