In addition to growing fresh, healthy, and local food, farmers play a crucial role in the protection of our watersheds and salmon populations. It's this vital importance that lead Stewardship Partners
to implement the Salmon-Safe certification program in Washington in 2004 to support landowners who are promoting and practicing sustainable land management to combat environmental degradation. To date, they have added more than 100 different Washington farms and vineyards to the program — ensuring the restoration and maintenance of watershed health across tens of thousands of agricultural acres.
Why Choose Salmon-Safe?
As an indicator species, salmon tell us how healthy our watersheds are. The decline of salmon runs in the face of water quality degradation and habitat loss is one of the most pressing environmental concerns facing Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest today.
