PUYALLUP, Wash. (March 31, 2022) - The Pierce Conservation District recently announced a second application deadline of Thursday, June 16, 2022, for assistance to implement on-farm improvements in the Puyallup and Nisqually watersheds through its Regional Conservation Partnership Program.
This is the fifth sign-up for this five-year program, which has a total of $700,000 in financial assistance to implement practices, of which $309,000 is available for contracting.
Financial and technical assistance will be provided to implement practices that benefit soil condition, water quality and quantity, and fish and wildlife habitat. Funding is provided through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
EQIP is a voluntary conservation program administered by the NRCS that can provide financial and technical assistance to install conservation practices that address natural resource concerns. EQIP provides assistance to agricultural producers in order to improve natural resource concerns and deliver environmental benefits such as improved water and air quality, conserved ground and surface water, reduced soil erosion, and sedimentation or improved wildlife habitat.
The District is accepting applications immediately. Interested farmers or landowners should contact the District at (253) 845-9770 ext. 106.
Although this sign-up is being conducted by the district, all program eligibility requirements of the EQIP program will still need to be met. One requirement is that each applicant must establish themselves as a USDA customer and complete all Farm Service Agency (FSA) eligibility requirements. For more information about those requirements, contact Kaitlin Davies at the local FSA office office at (253) 445-5899 or kaitlin.davies@usda.gov.
