1st Annual Green Puyallup Day
The Green Puyallup Partnership is the most recent addition to the Green City Partnerships family. Formed in 2015, the Green Puyallup Partnership is a public-private venture between the City of Puyallup, Pierce Conservation District, Forterra, other nonprofits, businesses, and community members. The Green Puyallup Partnership’s vision is to restore and maintain natural open spaces that support healthy ecosystems and waterways through community stewardship.
To celebrate this new partnership and help our long-standing Habitat Steward team
at Silver Creek we brought 12 community volunteers onto the site to move their project forward by planting 170 trees and shrubs. If you would like to help support the ongoing efforts of this site ask Melissa (melissab@piercecountycd.org) to connect you with this stewardship group. Typical work parties are the first Saturday of each month.
Camp Murray
Many hands made easy work in planting 600 native trees and shrubs along this kokanee salmon bearing stream. 60 cadets and 43 volunteers worked side by side to plant and mulch these plants into their forever homes.
McKinley Depave Planting
To complete the transformation of the McKinley Business District 42 volunteers planted nearly 3,000 shrubs along 2 ½ blocks of the McKinley Ave corridor. We are looking for interested folks to water these plants over the next 3 years, so if you are interested in helping this site establish, contact Melissa at melissab@piercecountycd.org.
Meeker Creek Restoration Project
A busy fall of 4 separate planting
events has led to 10,000 native trees
and shrubs being planted in this
floodplain. Once a reed canary grass
infested field, this site is now an
active floodplain that holds water in
flood events, reducing the impact to
neighboring properties. One neighbor
posted on Facebook that fall rain events
that normally filled his basement are
no longer a concern! It is working!
We still have some finishing touches to
do at this site, so mark your calendars
for February 27 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
to join us on site. RSVP with Melissa
at
