Climate Resiliency
The Climate Resiliency program is committed to developing broad, diverse, and inclusive partnerships to guarantee that our efforts are effective, equitable, and carries us towards a more climate-resilient future. Our work involves supporting rural communities in transitioning to clean and renewable energy sources, which helps in reducing carbon emissions, lowering costs, and preserving natural resources. In addition, we collaborate closely with local partners to put in place practical actions to prepare our communities for the risk of wildfire.

The Rural Energy Development for Washington is a statewide program that helps implement renewable energy and energy efficiency projects on farms and rural small businesses.

City Forest Credits
Launched in 2020, Pierce Conservation District is the first conservation district in the country to offer a carbon credit program that restores urban forested areas and vital riparian habitat.

Rural Climate Dialogues
The Pierce County Rural Climate Dialogue brought together a microcosm of the county for a five-day deliberative event modeled on the Citizens’ Jury method of deliberative democracy. Participants were tasked with creating a shared, community-based response to climate change and extreme weather events.

Wildfire Preparedness
Pierce Conservation District offers residents free wildfire services to improve the safety and defensible space of their homes against wildfire risks. Services include hazard ignition zone structure assessments, education, Firewise training, and delivery of other valuable safety resources.
